1980s

I don't know why but this entry was incredibly hard for me. This is basically all I could come up with.

Even though I wrote this on the drawing, many many apologies to SKEME and the other writers on Style Wars. I'm gonna try to find the original I was inspired on my own blog if you're interested.

If you haven't seen Style Wars and you lived through the 80's around NYC, you're denying yourself an awesome experience. I highly recommend it. Here's a link to it:

Zombie Reagan

This is a political statement about how Reagan in the 80's turned America into a nation of mindless money hungry whores. Its about how the 80's was a time in our nation where we lost our soul for material goods and abandoned our creative spirit. But most of all I just wanted to draw Ronald Reagan as a Zombie.........alright all I wanted to do was draw Ronald Regan as a Zombie, but that first part makes me sound a whole lot smarter.

Girl2point0s Room circa the Eighties

So I ran out of time to do this physically but here was my draft design. I was going to do it 3d and take a photo of the final. Thanks Peet. This blog is great!

The New Theme

"I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride
I'm looking for a party, I'm looking for a side
I'm looking for the treason that we knew in '65
Beware the savage jaw... of 1984!"
David Bowie, "1984"

I've been fixated on the past a lot recently, so this week is all about the 1980's. Cocaine, leg warmers, and car chases. Knock it out.

Winner

I chose this topic to see what other people thought of alien invasions. I have had reoccurring dreams of one for years. The story unfolds and grows with each passing almost like a many season TV series. It's the only topic that keeps going like this.

So although all of the submissions were unique and really great, I have to choose R.M. Sean B. Jaffe as that one just blew me away. Not only did he explore something I have been speculating (aliens have been here all along we just can't recognize them because we are bipedal-centric in thinking), Sean also captured the scene in such an interesting way. I've reread the story like 6 times now.

Sean one of my favorites from you. Win!

I have had so many ideas for this one but little time and resource (and skill) to create it. It's going in my finish someday list. At least 3 scenes I'm very excited about.

BrierRoze's Submission

So tonight, I had a live performance of "Alien Invasion" from BrierRoze. It was an interpretative dance which concluded with her invading my ear.

Here is a photo of her after the performance.

Alien Invasion

Ok so I'm heading out for the rest of the weekend and won't get a chance to finish this so I figured I'd post what I've got so far.

I'm pretty stoked on it.

This is basically what it's gonna look like when it's all done. Just with more detail/opacity changes.

Alien Invasion

Havent painted anything for forever so I took a stab at it. Sucks working with a deadline, dont know how you pros do it. Realy only had the one free day to work on it.

This is entitled aptly "Alien Invasion".

The Invasion of You

... And again.

You wake up in a room you’ve never seen before. It’s small, wooden. The bed is comfortable if somewhat small; there’s a garish poster of an asian pop star in a language you can’t immediately read but looks like, you dunno... maybe Korean? Outside the window, unfamiliar trees wave in a gentle rainstorm. In the distance, you see clear beach.

You blink, confused.

Your whole world becomes television static, like switching channels.

You blink again. Your ceiling is above you. You’re in your room.

“ Wake up. “ It says, blinking sideways over softball-sized eyes with nictating membranes, gill-fronds gently undulating along it’s slender neck.

“ Ungh. Anh. AAAAAH!”

You sit bolt upright and scream. It all sinks in at once. That it’s there, in your room. It’s real. You fell asleep as the power fluctuated, and weird news reports were coming in from Florida and Morocco and Singapore when you could get TV or internet, but you never thought... you... You start hyperventilating, scrambling backwards in your bed.

“ (Told you we should have gone with the “ dead relative” program.)” another other one chides.

“ (Nuh uh. They respond best to the (universal altruist.) “
“ (You’re kidding. That thing depopulated something like half the species.) “
